About University of the Azores

The University of the Azores (UAc) is a Portuguese university located in the Archipelago of the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago located in the Atlantic North, between Europe and America.

UAc is organized in three campi located in different islands (Ponta Delgada campus is in S. Miguel Island; Angra do Heroísmo campus is in Terceira and Horta campus is in Faial).

Inspired in the natural biodiversity and beauty of the islands, in their geographic location and geological features, UAc is committed to creating and promoting knowledge and technology on biodiversity, volcanology, tourism, marine and transnational issues, history and cultural features of the islands.

Its universal values and long history of emigration favor partnerships with more than 500 universities and research centers all over the world.

The University of the Azores offers a significant number of license programs, masters, and doctorates, as well as different mobility opportunities, summer courses and internships.

About the Azores

The Azores is a Portuguese Archipelago located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Composed of 9 volcanic islands (Santa Maria, S. Miguel, Terceira, Pico, Graciosa, S. Jorge, Faial, Flores, and Corvo), it has around 250 000 inhabitants.

Its geographical position attracts the attention of people from all over the world and over the years Azoreans, themselves, have spread all over. Azorean descendants may easily be found in Brazil, Canada, USA, and Bermudas.

The moist in the air and ancient volcanoes have differently shaped the landscape of the islands. Green pastures and high mountains, breathtaking lakes and craters, beautiful coastlines and fajãs make each island a unique place to visit and live.

The religious soul of the islanders and natural events shaped many cultural activities in the Azores such as the Holy Spirit Celebrations, the Procession of the Lord Holy Christ of Miracles or the Cavalhadas. Likewise, Azoreans’ joyful spirit and peculiar sense of humor have originated carnival folk dances and parades, bullfights, music, food and wine festivals all over.

Life cost in the Azores is reasonably cheap. Rents, food, primary goods, and entertainment are quite affordable.
