Research topic/area: I focus on the application of Multi-Attribute Tradespace Exploration (MATE) to public transportation design problems. MATE is a state-of-the-art decision and design method developed at MIT using aerospace examples. Through application in the transportation domain, I am able to identify domain commonalities and differences between space and transportation systems, which are important for the development of domain-independent principles and methods to apply across engineering systems. In my current research toward a Master's degree in Political Science, I am interested in systematically identifying reasons for why people may choose not to implement technically promising solutions, an issue that emerged from case applications in my previous research. One of the projects that I am working on focuses on the application of MATE to high-speed rail in Portugal.
