Research Summary: ‘Designing Next Generation Car Washing Machines’

This project is aimed at designing a new rollover car washing machine based on an existing model at in order to accomplish a number of objectives:

  1. Minimizing manufacturing time, labor & complexities.
  2. Improving transportation & installation strategies.
  3. Reducing weight/size.
  4. Developing corrosion resistance and maintenance.
  5. Enhancing the drying mechanism.

In order to reduce the number of heavy structural elements and time-consuming joining processes, new design concepts were developed. The most feasible design was studied using numerical tools:

  • Finite Element method was applied to study and validate the mechanical behaviour of the new structure under working conditions.
  • CFD was used to simulate the airflow behaviour of the new drying system.

Numerical results were validated by experimental methods.
