Sara Freitas, was awarded with the Young researchers Gulbenkian Prize (Prémio de Estímulo à Investigação 2014) with the topic Validation of a solar potential model for the urban environment including facades, with supervision of Miguel Centeno Brito. Sara Freitas is a Sustainable Energy Systems PhD Candidate at IDL (Instituto Dom Luís), under the MIT Portugal Program.
The award is promoted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and open to young researchers under 26, working at Portuguese scientific institutions. This year, the foundation recognized the work of 8 young researchers working if diverse fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Earth and Space Sciences.
Sara Freita’s awarded research plan includes the experimental validation of the 3D solar model SOL, developed by a multidisciplinary team of the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, using long term data of a real system installed in a facade, as well as comparison with alternative methods for photovoltaic potential assessment.
