Opportunity for Portuguese Faculty: MIT Climate Symposia Sponsorship

Update: Applications are now CLOSED and applicants will be contacted in the coming weeks regarding the status of their application. Thank you!

MIT Introduces: Progress in Climate Science, Climate Action Symposia Series

In keeping with MIT’s broad and intensive efforts outlined in President Rafael Reif’s Plan for Action on Climate Change, the Institute will host a series of Climate Action Symposia at MIT to discuss climate science and policy,  decarbonization of the global economy, and how universities can contribute solutions to the fight against climate change. Featuring leading experts from MIT and elsewhere, the symposia will explore the frontier of climate science and policy.

“The challenge of dramatically stepping up the pace of decarbonization while making sure this transition is sustainable and equitable across society will take all of our collective talents – and the best work of countless MIT minds and hands. We are eager for the symposia to help galvanize our community and plant the seeds for future research, policy and innovation in climate solutions. To that end, I hope many of you will make time to attend.”  – President Rafael Reif

As Climate Science/Change is one of the four focus areas of research for MIT Portugal Partnership 2030 (MPP2030), the program is pleased to announce that it will host four faculty members from Portuguese universities as guests to attend a symposium session of their choosing. As part of the sponsorship the selected faculty will receive:

  • Round-trip economy airfare within a reasonable timeframe of the chosen symposium date
  • Three-nights accommodations at a conveniently located hotel, reserved by the program coordination team
  • A $50 USD per diem towards meals and local transportation (to be reimbursed following the event and with supporting receipt documentation provided to the coordination office)

To be considered for the sponsorship, please submit the following by November 1, 2019:

  1. Complete application form (found here)
  2. Emailed confirmation of your completed form with your current CV attached to [email protected], subject line “MIT Climate Sponsorship-Your Name”

Please note that you must be a current FACULTY member at a Portuguese University to be eligible.
