Each year, the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) announces a competition for financing of Scientific Research and Technology Development Projects in specified themes linked to the research portfolios of the four focus areas of the MIT Portugal Program: Bio-Engineering Systems, Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing, Sustainable Energy Systems, and Transportation Systems.
In January 2009, the results of the 2008 Call for Proposals were announced. Fourteen research projects received funding. (See the full list of funded projects.  FCT Awards)
