| Monday, 07 November 2011 | The strong economic and social changes that have occurred in developed and emergent cities in recent decades led to an increase of urbanized areas. Therefore its citizen mobility is seen as a key element for their functionality and constitutes a permanent challenge for transport planners. Now a new software program provides real-time advice on the best way to travel between a given point A and B with a precise prediction of the arrival time. The program, developed at Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal) in partnership with MIT Portugal Program, takes in consideration several factors such as best route, travel time, actual location of the public transports and current speed for that time and route. | | Read more... | |

| Friday, 28 October 2011 | On October 10th, Sérgio Tavares was the first student from FEUP (Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto) to be graduated under the MIT Portugal Program. Sérgio started his PhD in 2007 and since then he has been developing his thesis on “Design and Advanced Manufacturing of Aircraft Structures using Friction Stir Welding”. His project aimed to contribute to the development of the Portuguese aeronautical industry and included the development of new approaches in aeronautic manufacturing, where a new joining process was used as case study.
Sérgio did his PhD under supervision of Paulo de Castro (FEUP), Pedro Vilaça (IST), Thomas Eagar (MIT), J. dos Santos (HZG, Germany) and M. Pachione (Airbus, Germany). During his PhD, Sérgio has submitted two patents and has published eight papers in international journals and has presented his work at several international conferences. | | Read more... | 2010 Education Innovation Awards |

| Tuesday, 18 October 2011 | Isabel Ferreira and Eunice Costa saw their PhD work recognize with a “Best Communication Award” at the last edition of the 11th International Chemical and Biological Engineering Conference (CHEMPOR 2011).
