MIT Portugal Students and Graduates Qualify for MIT Alumni Association Affiliate Status

If you are a student in or graduate of the MIT Portugal Program, you are entitled to Affiliate status in the MIT Alumni Association, an organization that boasts more than 120,000 members worldwide. The granting of Affiliate status by the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors in the spring of 2009 reflects the continuing integration of MIT Portugal into the MIT community.

Affiliate status offers three notable benefits:

1. Access to the Infinite Connection, an online network that enables members to register for MIT club events, join discussion groups, and enter/update personal contact information as needed.
2. Participation in most MIT regional clubs and affinity groups, including the MIT Club of Portugal, using the SmarTrans event registration system.
3. Receipt of the alumni version of Technology Reviewmagazine. (Requires a gift of $50 or more to the Alumni Fund.)

(Affiliates do not have access to the Online Alumni Directory, the Career Assistance Network, or EFL, MIT’s email forwarding for life.)

Register Online

Registering online for Affiliate status is a straightforward process:

• Go to the Infinite Connection “Get Connected” page at https://alum.mit.edu/register.vm
• Under “Choose a Relationship,” select "Affiliate Member" from the dropdown menu
• Enter your name, email address, etc., as prompted
• Set your login and password

In addition to providing access to membership privileges, the MIT Alumni Association website is an excellent resource for information about lectures, seminars, initiatives and other MIT-related news. (A few recommendations: the site’s events calendar; its “news and views” section; and the Discussion Network blog accessed via the left side of the site’s “benefits and services” page, which allows users to connect to the global MIT community.)
