ISCTE-IUL MIT Portugal Venture Competition- Meet the four finalists

And then there were four… Mediaomics, Greenlamp, All-desk and Musikki will compete at this year’s final of the ISCTE-IUL MIT-Portugal Venture Competition.

At a session that counted with the inspired entrepreneurship testimonies from Elazer Edelman (MIT/Edelman laboratory), António Murta (Pathena) and Edward Roberts (MIT Entrepreneurship Center), the International Jury Panel selected the 4 Finalists, who received a financial support of 100.000 Euro each.

 

 

Mediomics was the finalist selected at the Life Sciences track. Mediomics was developed by Rui Oliveira, António Dinis, João Dias, Nuno Carinhas, Filipe Ataíde, Nuno Carinhas, Filipe Ataíde and Ana Ferreira. Through a patented technology, this company proposes to produce high performance cell culture media for life-science researcher institutions and pharmaceutical companies.

At the Sustainable Energy and Transportation Systems track, the winner project was GreenLamp by Carlos Rosário and Jaime Sotto-Mayor. GreenLamp, by continuous monitoring local conditions and modulating light output, can save up to 75% of lightening energy in existing buildings.

The winner of the IT & Web track was the All-Desk project, a platform that allows workers to find the best working places and owners of unused spaces have now a chance to profit for them. All-desk was developed by Pedro Santos, Marco Abreu, Fernando Mendes, Rui Aires and Pedro Magalhães.

At the track Other Products & Services, Musikki was the front-runner. Musikki by Pedro Santos, Marco Abreu and Fernando Mendes, is under Beta testing, and aims to become the “Google of music listeners” bringing together in one place all the relevant music information that person can.

The 4 finalists are now competing to the ultimate prize of up to 400.000 Euro.

Once again, based on the innovative nature and potential business prospects, the Jury also announced 4 Honorable Mentions in each track to AlphaSIP (Life Sciences), Watt Intelligent Solutions (Sustainable Energy and Transportation Systems), NetMuST (IT & Web) and WiGO (Other Products & Services).

Jorge Tomé, Director of Caixa Geral de Depósitos and President of Caixa Capital, welcomed the quality of projects submitted and emphasized the convergence of this initiative with the efforts being developed by the Group Caixa to internationalize the national innovation and technology products.

The 8 Teams were invited to the bootcamp - eTeams II, at ISCTE-IUL where during 3 days they followed a program designed to use the teams’ go to market plans and challenges as input to an action-based learning approach to market introduction.

The Final will take place in a date and location still to be announced.
