Data Provision Agreement Signed with Transport Operators and Communication Companies

Major Portuguese transport operators, the City of Porto and communications companies signed an agreement on July 7, 2009 with the MIT Portugal Program to provide access to real-time data as part of the CityMotion research project.

The agreement, signed at the MIT Portugal Program’s 1st Annual Conference in Lisbon, “Engineering for Better Jobs,” will allow researchers to develop the Data Fusion process that is central to the CityMotion research agenda, aimed at providing integrated information on the state of mobility flows in urban areas.

Prof. José M. Viegas of IST, the Portuguese co-coordinator of the Transportation Systems focus area, explained that this agreement was vital because it “allows us to look ahead to developing algorithms which will allow more efficient utilization of our available urban spaces.”
Signing as the participating institutions on behalf of MIT Portugal were:
