Selection Process 2016

The Program’s selection process is carried out by professors from Portuguese institutions involved in each degree, together with their MIT counterparts.

The following factors are evaluated in the review of each application:

  • Academic grades
  • Professional CV
  • Motivation letter
  • Interview (evaluation of candidates may involve an interview in English, which may take place in person or via videoconference/Skype)
  • Reference letters

A GRE exam may be submitted by the candidate for evaluation, but is not mandatory.

Evaluation Appeal:

If the candidate does not agree with the evaluation of the Selection Committee of the PhD Program, the candidate has a deadline of 10 days (work days), after the announcement through e-mail, to present a complaint in the terms of the Código do Procedimento Administrativo (Code of Administrative Procedure), via e-mail. Upon the final decision of the Selection Committee an appeal can be submitted by the candidate to the Directive Board, during the 15 work days after notification

Candidates for the Transportation Systems PhD and CTIS courses should review the guidelines for prioritization of candidates based on GRE scores.

Applications are now closed for MIT Portugal schoolarships under the following Doctoral Programs:

  • Bioengineering Systems PhD
  • Leaders for Technical Industries PhD
  • Sustainable Energy Systems PhD
  • Transportation Systems PhD

We have received 399 applications to doctoral programs mentioned above. 

Results

The results for the following programs were already send to the students by e-mail.

The applications for the MIT Portugal PhD Programs were open until April 15th, 2013. Applications were open for the four distinct areas:

The applications for the MIT Portugal Program Advanced Programs were open until July 15th. Applications for SES Executive Master were open until September 9th.

Selection was based on the following criteria:

  • Academic grades
  • Professional CV
  • Motivation letter
  • Interview (not all programs)
  • Reference letters

Candidates who submitted good GRE scores enhanced their chances of acceptance.

This year 377 candidates considered MIT Portugal Program PhD and MSc as the next step for a successful career.

Selection Process 2012

The applications for the MIT Portugal Program’s academic year 2012/13 were open until April 30, 2012 for PhD programs, and until September 9, 2012 for Executive Master’s programs. During the admissions process, the Program received a total of 351 applications from all over the world. We selected a total of 101 candidates coming from 17 different countries: Angola, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Greece, India, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Mozambique, Poland, Republic of Macedonia, Portugal, Russia and Turkey.

The admissions selection process was conducted by juries composed of professors from each participating university in Portugal and from faculty at MIT.

Selection was based on the following criteria:
