Research area/topic: Prof. David Wallace's CadLab, Cork Composite Project. The team is working to develop new uses for cork composite, specifically in the direction of materials for wind turbine blades. We began by characterizing cork composite made from cork and epoxy resin, and have moved on to fabrication techniques. Cork composite has the possibility to be a good choice for wind turbine blades because it is light, strong and can be cast into many different geometries.
