Many regions of the world are facing daunting challenges when it comes to managing the transformation of their economies and consumer patterns through using energy and other resources more wisely, while relying more and more on local resources.

The Second Transatlantic Renewable Energy Conference will bring together government, industry and academia to review and discuss key technologies, challenges and policies related to the rapid, high penetration deployment of renewable resources as a main contribution to promote sustainable energy systems.

The Second Transatlantic Renewable Energy Conference will address these topics drawing from the latest in integrated energy systems research, and best practices by industry and government. The Conference is comprised of three sessions and in addition to these sessions, the Conference will showcase ongoing activities of different energy companies, plus research of the "Green Islands Project" team lead by the MIT-Portugal program along with partners across Portugal and the Azores, the European Union and North America. The conference will also bring together students from different universities in different regions to discuss renewable energies and sustainability topics. The workshop will allow students to share learning experiences and methodologies. The goal is to establish a transatlantic student’s network to improve knowledge sharing and research activities on renewable energies and sustainability.
