Description
“The Gap Between Realistic Expectations and our Transportation GHG Emissions Targets” John Heywood (MIT) will discuss the possible future scenarios for the transport sector. The debate will have Tiago Farias (DTEA/IST) as moderator.“Ambitious targets have been set for reducing petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the various energy sectors: e.g., for transportation reductions of 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. Reductions will come from improving mainstream engine and vehicle technologies, expanding the use of hybrid vehicles, and introducing lower-carbon-emitting biofuels. Reductions may also come from shifting transportation’s energy supplies in part to electricity, natural gas, or hydrogen. This seminar will discuss these options, and assess whether in real-world future transportation scenarios what potential they have for meeting these aggressive targets.” Registration is required and free for associates of Lisboa E-Nova (including MIT Portugal students).
