DescriptionInMotion '09 : Pervasive Technologies for Improved Mobility and Transportation , co-located with Pervasive 2009 May 11, 2009 - Nara, Japan Workshop Description In recent years we see an increasing deployment of sensors and powerful mobile processing devices in cities. Recent research efforts harnessed these technologies for analyzing the patterns of different dynamic flows in the city such as environmental conditions, people movements, and events. The newly available information about urban dynamics provides a promising context for Pervasive Computing applications in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Research in ITS aims to enhance transportation infrastructure systems and services as well as vehicles through information and communication systems. This workshop will explore applications for Pervasive Computing in ITS, with a focus new methods for obtaining real-time data relevant to peoples’ mobility, information provision, and data fusion. Objectives This workshop aims to address identified goals in of ITS and assess the value of addressing them with a Pervasive Computing approach. By joining in the organization and PC, and active computer science, urban planning and ITS researchers, we expect to have a balance of competences and potential for attracting high quality papers for the workshop. Achieving this goal will propel the organizing team to produce a book or a special issue journal as a result from the innovative ideas and progress made in the workshop. Paper Submission and Participation We ask potential attendees to submit 2-4 page position papers describing their research on the workshop topic. The paper may include the description of ongoing research, results found, experience gathered, new ideas, future projects or questions on topics related to pervasive computing and intelligent transport systems. Contributions should be submitted in PDF in the Springer LNCS format, electronically to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
